Residential pool construction involves several key steps, which ensure that the pool is built safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Here’s an overview of the typical process you can expect from Apollo Pools. This particular project is a pool renovation project close to our hearts!
Initial Consultation: The process starts with a consultation between the homeowner & the pool sales expert to discuss the desired pool features, size, shape, and location.
Design Phase: Based on the homeowner’s preferences, the contractor creates a custom design, including dimensions, style, and additional features like water fountains, spas, lighting, and landscaping.
Permitting: The contractor obtains the necessary building permits to begin construction. This step ensures that we always build to our local building codes and regulations.
Site Preparation: The area where the pool will be constructed or renovated is cleared of any debris, plants, or obstacles.
Excavation: Excavators dig the hole to the required depth and shape of the pool based on the design. The excavated area includes space for the pool walls, plumbing, and other structures.
Steel Framework: Steel rebar is placed within the excavated hole to create a strong, supportive framework for the pool’s structure. The rebar is shaped according to the pool design and provides strength to the pool shell.
Inspection: A building inspector will review the steel framework to ensure it meets our local building codes before concrete & gunite is applied.
Plumbing Installation: Professional plumbers install the necessary piping for water circulation, including the main drain, skimmers, returns, & water features. Pool heaters and filtration systems are also planned out at this stage.
Electrical Work: Electricians install the wiring for pool lights, pumps, and automation systems. All electrical components are grounded and properly insulated to ensure safety.
Gunite/Shotcrete: Gunite or Shotcrete (concrete materials) is sprayed onto the steel framework to form the pool’s shell. Gunite is dry-mixed & combined with water at the nozzle during spraying, while Shotcrete is premixed with water before being sprayed.
Curing: The Gunite/Shotcrete needs to cure for several days. During this curing process, the concrete will be kept wet to strengthen it and prevent cracking.
Tile Installation: Waterline tiles are installed around the pool’s interior to provide a finished look and prevent stains. Decorative and statement tile is also installed at this time.
Coping Installation: Coping (the material that covers the edge of the pool) is installed around the pool’s perimeter. It can be made of stone, concrete, or pavers and serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, offering a smooth edge for swimmers.
The area surrounding the pool is prepared for the installation process. Decking provides a walking area and enhances the aesthetics of the pool. Concrete, pavers wood, or other decking materials are installed. Drainage systems are also added to prevent water pooling on the deck.
Plastering or Alt Finish: The interior of the pool is coated with plaster (or alternatives like pebble, quartz, or aggregate finishes). These materials create the final waterproof layer and give the pool its desired color & texture.
Filling the Pool: Once the interior finish is complete, the pool is filled with water.
Filtration & Pump System: The pool’s pump, filter, and heating system are installed and connected to the plumbing system.
Automation & Controls: Any automation systems, lighting, or additional features are connected and programmed for use.
Final Inspection: A final inspection is conducted to ensure all components meet safety standards and building codes.
Orientation & Handover: Apollo Pools provides the homeowner with instructions on pool maintenance, safety guidelines, and how to operate the equipment.
